Citigroup took top spot for the number of new programme arrangerships in 2006, closely followed by Deutsche Bank with Barclays Capital just behind. These origination results mirror the success the trio enjoyed over the last year in MTN new issue activity where they also took the top three spots in the same order for all MTN private placements. New borrowers from emerging markets proved a big theme of origination efforts during 2006, helping to boost new programme signings to 125, up from 100 in 2005. Eleven new Latin American-based issuers signed, along with seven from Russia and the CIS, seven from the Middle East and three from India.
