Public Bank had Asia's best performing bank share this year on the back of a basic business model of taking deposits and lending consumers money. This unfashionable strategy made it one of the few banks to emerge from the financial crisis with credit. But its management team is ageing, and the likelihood that it will be targeted for a takeover is increasing now that its strengths have been recognised. Naomi Rovnick reports.
