EDF powers into empty long sterling market

Electricité de France launched its first bond for 11 months on Monday, choosing to do it in one of the emptiest sectors in the European capital markets — the long end of the sterling market.

The French power group, which owns electricity supplier EDF Energy in the UK, raised £1.25bn of 30 year debt — the largest corporate bond tranche in sterling since a £1.4bn issue by Enel in September 2009.
