EC looks at tougher counterparty rules
The European Commission is consulting on how to capitalise bank counterparty exposures, in the wake of Basel Committee and G20 initiatives to push OTC markets towards centralised counterparty clearing. It is proposing to give some clearing houses "qualifying" status, meaning banks will be able to hold less capital against "qualifying" exposures.
