Amando Tetangco was appointed governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the Philippine central bank, in early 2005 after his high-profile predecessor Rafael Buenaventura retired. Tetangco was Buenaventura's deputy for several years, and his choice as governor was a clear signal that the government wanted continuity in monetary policy and further consolidation in the banking sector.
