Deutsche Telekom and Vimpel join fight for MTN

India’s Bharti Airtel and Singapore Telecommunications are planning to set up a separate company to finance their proposed acquisition of South Africa’s MTN Group. EuroWeek understands that their bid is backed by a financing package of up to $21bn and that Standard Chartered and Goldman Sachs are involved. Meanwhile, Deutsche Telekom and Russia’s Vimpel Communications are said to be joining the race to bid for South Africa’s MTN Group.
