América Móvil’s Moreno tucks into dim sum
Mexican telecommunications company América Móvil raised Rmb1bn ($159m) last week, selling the first offshore renminbi bond from a Latin America issuer. Carlos Garcia Moreno, chief financial officer, hit the road in December to pitch the deal, meeting investors in Hong Kong and Singapore. But he decided to wait until the end of January, allowing several high-profile deals to come to the market and test investors’ pricing expectations. Bankers now hope that the A2/A-/A rated company will become a regular borrower in the market — and encourage other foreign issuers to follow.Matthew Thomas asked Garcia Moreno about his thoughts on the deal, his pricing expectations for the future, and how often he plans to come back to the market.
