Japan’s finance ministry pledged to lend about half of its foreign exchange reserves to a special scheme to help firms meet overseas funding needs, as Toyota admitted it was seeking up to US$2 billion in government-backed emergency loans. Also, Standard Chartered reported a 17% increase in 2008 net profit, while the Reserve Bank of Australia left interest rates unchanged.
