RBS results show tale of two quarters for banks

RBS's Markets business illustrated the changes in fortunes of banks' trading operations in the first half of 2012 as they first benefited from the ECB's LTROs and then suffered as confidence fell sharply. The same trend was seen in 2011, but was more pronounced this year with a surge in eurozone worries — and a slowing of Chinese growth.
