Deutsche relocates Gearhart to Singapore for syndicate role
Deutsche Bank has appointed Jake Gearhart as head of global risk syndicate for Asia, effective immediately.
Gearhart will relocate to Singapore from New York and will report to Herman Van Den Wall Bake, head of fixed-income capital markets in Asia, who was promoted from the syndicate role last month.
Prior to this appointment, Gearhart was the head of Deutsche’s emerging market syndicate for the Americas and has worked at the bank for 15 years.
Van den Wall Bake took over the post from Patrick Tsang, who will leave in August.
Tokoyoda to Morgan Stanley head FX sales Asia
Toru Tokoyoda, managing director at Fortress Investment Group, is switching back to the sell side as a managing director and head of FX sales for Asia at Morgan Stanley, effective mid-August.
He will report both to Stephen Glynn, Asia Pacific head of fixed income division (FID) and co-global head of FX emerging markets, and Ben Falloon, head of Asia Pacific FID sales.
Tokoyoda left Nomura in April last year from his position as head of FX and local rates institutional sales for Asia Pacific. He then joined Fortress Investment Group in September 2011, and has worked there for less than a year.
At Nomura, he was replaced by Trevor Rosmarin, who joined the bank in November 2009 from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, initially to head up hedge fund FX derivative sales in Singapore.

Lau to head of FIC client sales at RBC Capital Markets
RBC Capital Markets has appointed Rebecca Lau as managing director and head of Hong Kong client sales for fixed income & currencies (FIC) sales as of July 13.
Lau reports to Frederic Laine, head of FIC Asia at RBC Capital Markets.
Prior to joining RBC Capital Markets, Lau held senior roles at BNP Paribas, ANZ and Standard Chartered in Hong Kong.
Dolan steps down from Nomura
Paul Dolan, head of equities for Asian Pacific at Nomura has stepped down to take a break from the industry. Dolan joined Nomura in 2003 as head of the global convertible bonds team.
Norikazu Akedo, head of Japan equities, will replace Dolan and remain based in Tokyo. He will share the position with John Adair, current co-chief of Asia Pacific who is based in Hong Kong.
UBS hires Nomura’s Kurosawa
UBS has appointed Masami Kurosawa, who formerly worked for Nomura, as a director in its Tokyo-based equity structured product sales team, effective from July 25.
Kurosawa will work closely with Ryo Kadobe in fixed income, currencies & commodities (FICC) pension sales. She will be focusing on selling investment products such as strategy indices and managed accounts as well as other FICC products and will report to Hirofumi Takaku, head of equity structured product.
Last month, the bank hired Go Ito, formerly of Nomura, as director in its flow derivatives sales team in Japan.
Newman promoted as CEO of ING’s commercial banking arm.
ING Bank has promoted Mark Newman to chief executive officer (CEO) of ING commercial banking Asia, starting on August 1.
Newman will retain his position as regional head of financial markets Asia, as well as CEO for the ING’s Asian commercial banking arm. He remains based in Singapore and he will be responsible for the bank’s strategy and performance across 14 markets in Asia. He will report to Diederik van Wassenare, global head of clients and network at ING commercial banking and in his old role, he will report to Percy Rueber, global head of financial markets at ING’s commercial banking arm.

Azer to head JPM’s global fund service product
Marian Azer was appointed as head of global fund services product for Australia and New Zealand at J.P Morgan.
Azer will work closely with clients and the wider industry to identify market trends and develop client-focused solutions for the global fund service production division and will report to David Braga, head of product and investor service for Australia and New Zealand.
The appointment is a return to J.P. Morgan for Azer who first joined in 1996. After she left the firm, she worked at BNP Paribas, Orion Asset Management and AAS. Her most recent role was principal, leading operational consulting for all aspects of investment implementation and operations for clients across Asia at Mercer.
First State appoints global resources analyst
First State Investments (FSI) has appointed Peter Mangano as a senior analyst within the global resources team on July 30, effective immediately.
Mangano will be based in Sydney and report to Joanne Warner, head of global resources. Prior to joining FSI, Mangano was the chief operating officer (COO) of IPD Analytics, based in Miami. Before that, he worked for Citigroup, Salomon Smith Barney and HSBC.
BSI appoints Chua as head of Wealth Management Services
BSI Bank has appointed Susan Chua as head of wealth management services North Asia starting on July 16. Chua will be based in Hong Kong and reports to Esther Heer, deputy CEO Asia.
Chua is responsible for providing investment advisory and wealth management services to clients in North Asia and has 20 year’s experiences in wealth management.
BSI currently has 80 staff in Hong Kong and is expecting to continue growing its team over the next two years. BSI has launched its Hong Kong branch banking operations in March 2012, shortly after the firm received the full banking license from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA).
HSBC GAM bolsters its global macro and investment strategy team
HSBC Global Asset Management has added four teams in global macro and investment strategy. The two teams in Hong Kong and two in London will be led by Philip Poole, global head of macro & investment strategy.
Herve Lievore was appointed as senior economist and investment strategist based in Hong Kong, starting May 10, while Renee Chan was appointed as economist and investment strategist, starting on April 10.
Prior to joining HSBC, Lievore worked as economist/strategist at AXA as Investment Managers. Meanwhile, Chan worked at Macquarie Capital, Nomura International, and Citibank Taiwan.
Mayer Brown adds new HK corporate partner
Mayer Brown JSM has appointed James Fong as partner in its corporate and securities practice, starting on July 23.
The role comes as the firm is seeking to reinforce capabilities in its equity capital markets and M&A practices. Fong reports to Patrick Wong, partner and head of the practice in Asia.
Fong began his career in 1998 at Johnson Stokes and Masters, which merged with Mayer Brown to become Mayer Brown JSM in 2008.
SFC names non-executive director
Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has named Teresa Ko Yuk-Yin, formerly financial secretary, as non-executive director (NED) for a term of two years, effective from August 1.
Ko’s promotion comes following the departure of Angelina Lee, who was first appointed as a NED on August 2006 and whose term expires on July 31.
