Malhotra resurfaces as Southeast Asia DCM at Nomura
Raj Malhotra has been appointed head of debt capital markets (DCM) for Southeast Asia at Nomura. He joins from UBS where he was joint head of DCM for Southeast Asia, covering banks, corporates and sovereigns in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.
He will be based in Singapore and will report to Clayton Carol, head of DCM and debt syndicate for Asia ex-Japan, according to an internal memo seen by Asiamoney PLUS.
He left UBS on August 31 this year, after five years at the bank, and three as Southeast Asia DCM head. Before UBS he worked at Goldman Sachs, conducting credit research on European banks.
Aguzin to become Asia CEO of J.P. Morgan
Nicholas Aguzin has been appointed deputy CEO of Asia Pacific at J.P. Morgan. He will move to Hong Kong next year to work alongside Jeff Urwin, head of global investment banking and CEO of Asia Pacific at the bank. Aguzin will then take over from Urwin as Asia CEO later in the year.
Urwin will continue as global head of investment banking. Aguzin has worked at J.P. Morgan for 22 years, working in client coverage, M&A and capital markets. in 2005 he became the CEO for Latin America, and in 2008 and 2009 he was also senior country officer for Brazil.
In Latin America he will be replaced by Martin Marron, who is now head of Americas sales and trading for global emerging markets at the bank.
RBS appoints Thailand head
Charly Madan has joined RBS as country executive and head of international banking for Thailand, effective December 1. He will head up the markets and international banking businesses in Thailand, including debt financing, markets, transaction services and risk management.
He will report to Madan Menon, head of international banking for Asia Pacific at RBS. He joins from Bank of Ayudhya, where he has been head of corporate banking since the start of 2010.
Before this he was country officer for Citibank Vietnam for five years and worked for Citibank Thailand as head of global relationship banking and financial services group for nine years. He also worked for Standard Chartered in Thailand for five years.
UBS Indonesia country head leaves the bank
Rajiv Louis, country head of UBS Indonesia and head of investment banking Indonesia, has left the bank. He will be temporarily replaced by Joshua Tanja, current president director of PT UBS Securities and head of Indonesian equities and equities research.
In addition, the investment banking Indonesia role will continue to be covered by the regional investment banking division teams, according to a UBS spokesman.
Tanja has worked for UBS for eight years and was appointed head of Indonesian equities in 2011. Before this, he worked for Danareksa Securities, Nomura, Paribas Asia, WI Carr and Asia Equity. As country head, he will report to UBS’ Asia Pacific CEO, Chi-Won Yoon.
Knuckey to lead new ANZ Myanmar office
ANZ has opened a representative office in Myanmar, which will be run by Grant Knuckey, CEO of ANZ Royal Bank in Cambodia and chairman of ANZ Laos.
The move is part of the bank’s intention to expand into the greater Mekong region, defined as Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar. He will report to Alex Thursby, CEO for international and institutional banking at ANZ.
Deutsche appoints head of GTB Philippines
Dave Fuentebella has joined Deutsche Bank as head of global transaction banking (GTB) for the Philippines and head of trade finance and cash management for corporates in the Philippines, effective immediately.
He will report to Lisa Robbins, head of GTB for Asia Pacific as well as to Arnd Weckes, Asia Pacific head of global network banking, and Enrico Cruz, chief country officer for the Philippines. He will be based in Manila.
Before Deutsche Bank, Fuentebella has worked in corporate banking at Citi, Standard Chartered and Credit Agricole.
Citi names Indonesia head of transaction services
Riko Adythia Tasmaya will become head of Citi Transaction Services (CTS) for Indonesia. He joined Citi in 1995 as a management associate, and has led the bank’s treasury and trade solutions business in Indonesia since October 2010.
The business is part of Citi’s institutional clients group, that focuses on cash management, trade, securities and funding. He takes over from Sanjeey Jain, who has been Indonesia head of CTS since 2011.
Wong joins VTB Capital from Credit Suisse
VTB Capital has appointed Lewis Wong as managing director, head of Asia illiquid credit trading, Asia. He will be based in Hong Kong and report directly to Roman Nagaev, head of investment, credit and project finance, and regionally to Damian Chunilal, CEO for Asia at the firm.
Wong joins from Credit Suisse, where he has worked since 2000 in the emerging market financing group and in risk management, also based in Hong Kong.
General Atlantic hires Mumbai office head
Sandeep Naik has joined General Atlantic, India as managing director and head of the company’s Mumbai office in India. He moves from Apax where he was a partner and co-head of the India office, focusing on investments in healthcare, financial and business services and retail and consumer sectors.
In other news, the private equity company has promoted Nick Nash to principal. Nash joined General Atlantic in 2002 and moved to Singapore last year to help set up the company’s Southeast Asia business.
Simmons & Simmons hires financial markets partner
Jay Lee has joined the Hong Kong office of law firm Simmons & Simmons as a financial markets partner, effective December 5. He joins from Standard Chartered where he was head of DCM legal for Northeast Asia, responsible for China, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and Japan.
He has also worked at Citigroup, at Korean company Shin & Kim, as well as at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in New York.
