Sukuk returns as EM defies US government closure

The Middle East’s four month absence from the international sukuk market came to an end on Tuesday, as Abu Dhabi bank Al Hilal issued its eagerly awaited $500m debut. The note could lead a wave of sukuk, said bankers, with emerging market issuers also queuing up to issue conventional bonds undeterred by the US government shutdown.
