Middle Eastern financial markets had their share of toil and trouble last year, and failed to escape the tail end of the turmoil that struck markets worldwide in the wake of Lehman Brothers’ bankruptcy. But it was also a year of many highlights for some of the region’s borrowers and institutions, and lending banks have continued to flock to the GCC, underlining its growing importance in the arena of international finance.

EuroWeek presents its first ever awards dedicated to the syndicated loan market in the Middle East. The winners have been voted for by their peers, in a poll of banks, investors and borrowers that was carried out in November and December last year. The one prize to be held back is the award for overall best arranger of Middle Eastern loans, which will be announced at EuroWeek’s Syndicated Loan and Leveraged Finance Awards dinner on February 3 2009 in London.
