IIF says bail-ins a ‘win-win’ — but not for senior
The Institute of International Finance said last week that creditor bail-ins were a "win-win" solution for bank recovery. But the body stopped short of giving approval in all circumstances, and said it was cautious about bail-ins being imposed on senior creditors.
In a paper on bank resolution published on Monday, the IIF proposed a framework for subordinated creditors and in some cases senior creditors to take a loss on their investments to ensure that a struggling institution could stay afloat.
