Rights issues back as mid-market UK plc seeks fresh financing
William Hill, a bookmaker, and Ophir Energy, an oil explorer, launched rights issues this week, joining steel firm Severfield-Rowen and nickel miner Talvivaara among UK-listed companies asking shareholders for fresh funds.
There were only four rights issues of $100m equivalent or more in the UK during 2012, the same number as in 2010 and 2011 as activity cooled off following the extraordinary circumstances of 2009 when there were 50 deals of that size.
