  • EuroMTN issuance remained brisk this week, showing the product's resilience to the geopolitical uncertainty and market volatility that the conflict in Iraq has created. While volumes in the public bond markets were thin, MTN issuance decreased only slightly, from $11.32bn last week to $11.16bn. The level of activity was all the more impressive given that the previous week was the busiest since the record volumes of January.

  • Petrobras, the Brazilian state owned oil company, this week became Brazil's first borrower to sell a corporate term bond in almost a year when it launched a blowout $400m transaction. The deal, led by Bear Stearns, was doubled in size after attracting strong investor interest from a wide range of accounts.
