Morgan Stanley's Asia Pacific president and head of investment banking, Mike Berchtold, is moving back to the US with the bank after 16 years in Asia. Berchtold will return to his native California at the end of the year to become a vice chairman of investment banking. He will be replaced as head of Asia Pacific investment banking by Matthew Ginsburg, a Hong Kong-based managing director who is now head of the bank's financial institutions group (Fig) in the region. Despite the relocation, Berchtold intends to remain actively involved in Morgan Stanley's Asian business, as he told EuroWeek.
