UK banks grab deposits to replace wholesale funding

A big rise in retail deposits is filling the gap left by reduced wholesale funding activities by UK banks and building societies, leaving their total funding volumes broadly unchanged in the first quarter of 2013, according to a survey by the Bank of England.
