Macquarie has hired Edmund Leong as a managing director on its Asia Capital Markets team. Leong joined last week from the DCM origination desk at Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BoA-Merrill), according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
At Macquarie, he will report to Stephen Panizza, head of debt capital markets for Asia. The pair have a history of working together as before BoA-Merrill, Leong worked for Panizza at ING and ABN Amro.
Leong leaves BoA-Merrill after six and a half years at the bank. In his new job, he will continue to be based in Hong Kong. A spokesperson at BoA-Merrill declined to comment.
This follows on from recent moves at BoA-Merrill on the DCM syndicate side.
Ashish Malhotra, former head of Asia Pacific debt syndicate and Hong Kong DCM, left the bank recently, shortly after the bank hired Devesh Ashra and Hital Desai from Credit Suisse to join the team.
A spokesperson from Macquarie had not responded to requests for comment by press time.
