US Securitization Awards 2023

Welcome to the 2023 GlobalCapital US Securitization awards.

As in previous years, the award winners will be decided through a two-step process. The first stage of the process is the call for nominations. This is open to anyone active in the securitization market, and participants are invited to put themselves, their colleagues, clients and peers forward to be shortlisted. A full list of categories can be found below. Nominations should reflect firm and deal activity in the 2022 calendar year.

When making your nominations, you should consider the organisations which have been involved in the most innovative or challenging transactions, the quality of execution and structuring; investment, growth, and progression in the business, or those who have stood out for the breadth and depth of their securitization franchises.

In previous years, we have encouraged you to share both the call for nominations survey and the vote for the winners with your clients. Taking on feedback, we recognise that this makes the process unnecessarily demanding. As such, when putting together this year’s shortlist, the quality of nominations will be prioritised over volume. We reserve the right to weight nominations by seniority, job role, institution, or similar considerations. Instead of suggesting that you distribute the survey widely, we are asking you to ensure that the nominations you make are comprehensive and reflect the leading players and deals in the US Securitization market. This can include your own institution, but should also encompass your clients, colleagues and peers.

We encourage you to nominate widely outside of your own organisation, but you are also free to nominate you own deals and teams. You have two choices in each category, so if you are nominating your own organisation, you must also nominate a peer as a second choice. This is your opportunity to shape the shortlist, so consider your nominations carefully.

If you are nominating your own organisation or deal, we encourage you to provide a short submission to support your nomination. This should be a maximum of one side of A4, detailing key accomplishments during the research period in relation to a given category. This may include standout deal work, innovations or improvement in your product or service offering, examples of growth, and support to clients in unusual or demanding circumstances. Differentiation is key and your submission should demonstrate how you have stood out from your competitors. You may upload a single submission covering multiple categories or provide a separate submission for each relevant category in the survey. This information will be used exclusively for the purposes of the awards and will be kept confidential. If you are providing a submission to nominate yourself in a category, you must also recommend another organisation in the same category.

The survey will still form the basis for choosing the nominees, but submissions will be used in aggregate to help us compile a representative and credible shortlist in each category. Our awards research team may follow up on your submission with a short call.

While private or limited distribution financings are often the most interesting and award-worthy projects, please bear in mind that the next part of the process is a broad vote from across the US securitization market. It may therefore be best to nominate institutions or deals that are widely known in order to maximise the chances they will be recognised in the voting.

KEY DATES

  • Nominations open: from 10 January 2023 to 17 February 2023
  • Shortlist published and voting opens: 7 March 2023
  • Voting closes: 4 April 2023
  • Winners announced: New York, The Metropolitan Club - June 7, 2023

The shortlist is determined through the nominations process and winners will be decided through a market vote. There is no cap on the numbers voting from any given institution, and no requirement to answer every question. We reserve the right to weight votes by seniority, job role, institution, or similar considerations. In general, little weight will be placed on votes for one’s own institution and considerable weight placed on votes for counterparties. A vote from a portfolio manager at a major securitization investor, for example, would count more heavily than that of a rating agency analyst in determining the “Secondary ABS/RMBS trading house” award, while a regular issuer’s vote for arranging bank would be particularly valuable.

In the market vote for the winners, we encourage you to distribute the survey widely among clients, counterparties and within your own institutions, but urge you to avoid ‘block voting’, in which every response form is identical, and for everyone involved to consider their choices individually. We reserve the right to strip out suspected block votes in tabulating the final category winners. All votes will be strictly confidential.
