Sponsor fundraising momentum may benefit high yield bond issuance

European private equity firms are raising an increasing number of mega-funds this year, according to data and software firm PitchBook. At the same time, their share of high yield bond issuance has almost doubled.

If investors keep up the pace of their capital allocation to sponsor funds, already at €46bn, buyout fundraising could “potentially eclipse” 2017’s €79bn, said PitchBook analysts Wylie Fernyhough and Darren Klees.
