World Bank pandemic bond finally triggers

The pandemic bond issued by the World Bank, which supports a pandemic financing facility for poorer countries, has now met the conditions to pay out, GlobalCapital understands.

The bond had to meet various hurdles before holders would lose their principal. The complex process to write it down has been criticised, after it did not trigger in the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo nor in the early stages of the coronavirus outbreak.
