Non-bank mortgage lenders pressured as housing market slows

Non-bank mortgage lenders are feeling the squeeze as the housing market begins to slow and the era of robust mortgage refinancing activity nears its end.

According to data released by the Mortgage Bankers Association on Thursday, average production profit for non-bank mortgage lenders was 20bp in the third quarter of 2018, down 1bp from the second quarter and a fall of 21bp versus the third quarter of 2017.
