Jim Sweeney will begin working as a v.p. and trader on the loan desk of TD Securities today. Loan sources said Sweeney will trade alongside Mark Sorensen, a managing director in the firm's high yield loan trading group. Sweeney will also report to Sorensen. Sources familiar with the hire said the latest addition did not mark a shift in strategy for TD, but rather a small expansion of existing capacities to meet activity demands. It was not clear whether additional personnel would be needed.
Sweeney had previously been a broker at Imperial Capital. Prior to Imperial, he had a long tenure at BT Alex. Brown and ultimately Deutsche Bank. Sweeney could not be reached. Officials at TD declined comment, but a spokesman for the firm confirmed the hire. Officials at Imperial did not return calls by press time.
