Nicholson, who starts next month, declined to comment. His responsibilities will become clear once he starts, Dobson noted.

At Merrill, Nicholson reported to Scott Soltas, group head of asset-backeds, mortgage-backeds and collateralized debt obligations. Soltas did not return a call by press time.
