Fred Alger Management, a buy-side firm with $500 million in taxable fixed income under management in New York, is looking to hire a portfolio manager to handle fixed-income and convertibles. The new hire would report to the company's founder and chairman, Fred Alger, according to Monica Smith, president of analysts resources. Smith declined further comment.
The hire would be a replacement for the previous portfolio manager, Alison Barbi, who left on Sept. 20 to join RBS Greenwich Capital as a managing director in callable agencies. Her portfolio has been taken over by Steve Thumm, v.p. and portfolio manager. A call to Alger was not returned by press time.
