The UBS European high-yield team in London has lost Adam Hewson, executive director and head of European high-yield and mezzanine capital markets, two months after Bob Ferguson, head of high-yield sales, departed for Credit Suisse First Boston in London (BW, 8/23).
Hewson is joining the mezzanine financing team at GE Corporate Financial Services in London on the capital markets side, according to a former colleague at UBS and an official at GE CFS in London. Hewson was on gardening leave and could not be reached. Paul De Domenico, GE CFS's ceo for Europe, did not return calls by press time.
Hewson reported to Steve Conway, head of high-yield and loan capital markets at UBS. Conway said the firm has a deep bench in both loan and fixed-income capital markets, and he does not plan to make any external hires before year-end. He said there may be some internal transfers from the Stamford, Conn. office, and while Conway would not specify roles or numbers, another official at the firm said there were potentially three spots to fill: one research analyst to join Ronan Clarke, head of high-yield research recently hired from J.P. Morgan in London (BW, 9/13), another professional to work with Nathan Stone in high-yield sales, and a third to work with Graeme Scullard in high-yield capital markets.
