Silvermine Capital Management has hired Brian Carlson as a principal and senior analyst, covering the power, publishing and media sectors. Carlson joins from Kingsland Capital Management, where he was also a principal and senior analyst. He started last Monday.
"We have known him professionally and then personally for a long time and thought he would be a great fit for the team," said Rich Kurth, managing director. "When the opportunity arose to engage him, we jumped on it." Kurth and Steve Kalin, managing director, have known Carlson for about eight years and Kurth touted Carlson's credit background and experience building businesses at both Kingsland and Katonah Capital. Carlson previously worked at Katonah before joining Kingsland after Joyce DeLucca left in January 2005 to set up the new firm (LMW, 2/7/05).
Silvermine was started last year by Kurth, Kalin, Jonathan Marks and Aaron Meyer, all coming from Trust Company of the West. The firm just priced its second CLO, Comstock Funding, a $450 million structure. The team now comprises 10 professionals, most recently adding Greg Smith, an analyst, this winter. Another hire is expected this summer.
