Douglas Colandrea, an investment-grade telecommunications and media analyst, has left Morgan Stanley, where he was an executive director. He will join Bear Stearns in mid-June, according to people at both firms. Colandrea declined comment when reached on his mobile phone. Mike Hyland, head of research at Bear Stearns, did not return calls, nor did Bill Reiland, director of U.S. credit research at Morgan Stanley. Morgan Stanley has not yet announced its plans regarding his replacement, says an analyst at the firm.
Colandrea was a runner-up in the telecommunications services sector on the Institutional Investor 2001 All-America Fixed-Income Research Team. Prior to last year, he was a runner up for three straight years in the media and entertainment sector. At Bear Stearns, he will fill a void left after the departure of Marion Boucher Soper and a group of analysts for Deutsche Bank (BW, 3/13). He cannot join Bear Stearns until June because his contract with Morgan Stanley requires him to wait 30 days after leaving the firm for a competitor, says an analyst with knowledge of the situation.
