Banc One Capital Markets has hired two senior high-yield analysts from Chicago-based money managers to help build its high-yield business. Dana Johnson, Banc One's head of capital markets and foreign exchange research, says he chose to focus on sectors in which the firm already has banking relationships. The firm has been beefing up its overall fixed-income effort since last fall, and recently hired Bill Wulkan to the new position of London-based capital markets head (BW, 3/17).
Jackie Benson will cover autos and heavy manufacturing, while Gregg Anderson will focus on the energy sector. Benson comes from Scudder Kemper, where a number of high-yield officials are said to be looking elsewhere rather than follow the firm's high-yield assets to Deutsche Asset Management in Philadelphia (BW, 3/25). She could not be reached. Anderson comes from Deerfield Capital Management. Eric Zenner, portfolio manager at Deerfield, did not return calls, and Anderson could not be reached.
Benson and Anderson both join Banc One as directors, where they become the first senior high-yield analysts at the firm. Johnson says he plans to make additional high-yield research hires later this year or perhaps next year.
