John Altier, executive director, has been tapped to manage the government sales team at UBS Securities in Stamford, Conn. reporting to Jon Bass, managing director and head of U.S. fixed-income distribution. A senior UBS Securities official says the position had been vacant for several months as senior management looked to solidify the group with several new hires, including Mike Kenny, who joined from HSBC Securities (BW, 6/15), and Brett Benza, a senior salesman from Morgan Stanley. Altier, a nominee for BW's Sales Pro Of The Year (BW, 10/13), will lead an eight-person desk. He joined UBS Securities during the firm's merger with PaineWebber roughly three years ago. He declined comment, and Bass referred calls to Kris Kagel, a firm spokesman, who confirmed the move.
