Goldman’s Wagner Among Trio Of Loan Pros Leaving Firm

A trio of loan pros at Goldman Sachs, including Robert Wagner, head of loan capital markets, is leaving the firm.

A trio of loan pros at Goldman Sachs, including Robert Wagner, head of loan capital markets, is leaving the firm. Chris Turner, managing director, and John Simonson, v.p., are also leaving, but the moves are said to be unrelated. A Goldman spokesman declined comment.

Wagner, who joined Goldman from Deutsche Bank in 1999 after heading Banker’s Trust’s New York loan capital markets group, is retiring from the market, said several sources. He did not immediately return calls. Turner, who works with financial sponsors, is joining private-equity firm Warburg Pincus, while Simonson is taking time out of the market.

A replacement for Wagner has not yet been determined, but one banker said Steve Hickey, a partner at Goldman who runs sales, trading and syndicate, is a likely candidate. Meanwhile, Tom Connolly, co-head of leveraged finance, and the banker Wagner reported to, is still around, another source said.

Simonson declined comment and Turner did not return calls. Officials at Warburg Pincus also did not return immediate calls.
