BNY Makes Senior Hires For Credit Sales, Research

BNY Capital Markets has made a slew of hires for its fixed-income team in Roseland, N.J.

BNY Capital Markets has made a slew of hires for its fixed-income team in Roseland, N.J. Among them, Greg Sullivan returns to the dealer as managing director and head of fixed-income sales, after a year at Raymond James. The firm laid out a bulking up strategy for its existing credit businesses with a series of hires earlier this year (BW, 1/10).

Jim Gorman, joins BNY as v.p. in high-yield sales from Miller Tabak Roberts Securities. Leonard Kuminski has also joined the dealer as a v.p. in high-grade and cross-over credit sales from Piper Jaffray, where he was a managing director in institutional fixed-income sales. Additionally, BNY has hired Gary Madia as a senior high yield analyst covering metals, paper and chemicals from Travelers Insurance. Andrew Hain, senior analyst at New York distressed hedge fund Lampe Conway, has also landed at BNY in a similar role.

Michael Rowe, managing director and head of research at BNY, said the firm intends to hire five additional high yield salespeople and is aiming to open a New York office. He also would like to hire three more analysts to cover the auto sector, distressed and the cross-over space, respectively.

Robert Schoenthal, managing director and ceo of Miller Tabak, declined comment on Gorman's departure. A call to Raymond James regarding Sullivan was referred to Chris Harrison, head of sales, who was traveling and could not be reached for comment. Officials at MetLife did not comment on Madia by press time and Richard Conway, principal at Lampe Conway, had no comment on Hain. Susan Beatty, spokeswoman for Piper, confirmed Kuminski's departure but declined further comment.
