Piper Jaffray has hired Ben May as head of high-yield and structured products in its corporate and institutional services business. In his new role, May will head high-yield and structured products sales and trading and oversee the firm's debt capital markets group. Prior to joining Piper Jaffray, May was with Wachovia Securities from 1995 until 2004.
In addition to his individual duties, May will serve on the corporate and institutional services operating committee. May, who will report to Tom Schnettler, head of corporate and institutional services, was unavailable for comment.
May is a 24-year veteran in the field of fixed income and the credit products area. In addition to his time at Wachovia, where he worked as head of high-yield sales, trading and research; head of fixed income sales trading and research; and head of credit products, May worked at Dillon Reed & Company as head of high-yield and high-grade bond trading and at Drexel Burnham Lambert, where he began his career as a bond trader.
