Carlos Echave, former director and legal counsel of the European Securitisation Forum, has moved over to Mayer Brown to work as a securitization lawyer with the firm. Echave was previously a lawyer at Linklaters and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Madrid.
Echave’s role at the ESF included advising working groups on legal and regulatory matters affecting securitization, with particular focus on the implementation of Basel II and early stages of Solvency II. According to Mayer Brown, he was also responsible for the development of domestic legal frameworks in various European countries and handling issues arising from the Market Abuse Directive and MiFID.
An official at the ESF confirmed the news, adding the forum is currently looking for a replacement for Echave. Mayer Brown officials did not immediately return calls for additional comment.
