J.P. Morgan Analyst Leaves For Buyside

Metropolitan Capital Advisors, an event-driven, special situations hedge fund firm, has nabbed Greg Coules from J.P. Morgan, as a managing director, special situations analyst. The firm, which manages $340 million, wanted to add a third analyst slot for its Bedford Falls onshore fund along with its offshore Metropolitan Capital Advisors International fund, explained David Fried, partner and director of marketing.

Coules was a senior distressed analyst in the distressed research/high-yield loan trading group at J.P. Morgan Securities. Coules said he "cut his teeth on the sell-side" prior to making the move to a hedge fund. The opportunity presented itself, he explained, almost coincidentally. He is a friend of Metropolitan President Karen Finerman's sister, and through her, heard about the firm looking to add an analyst with both a legal and credit background because of the firm's special situation investments. "I fit in that mold," quipped Coules, who is also a lawyer. Calls to a J.P. Morgan spokesman were not returned.
