Ethan Garber, director in the synthetic collateralized debt group at Credit Suisse First Boston, has left the firm and is the latest professional to contemplate starting his own hedge fund. "I'm considering starting a fund which would do credit intensive capital structure arbitrage and distressed," said Garber, who noted he may also join an existing buy-side shop or head to another dealer. He declined further comment on his potential fund, noting plans are in preliminary stages.
Garber said he did a mix of prop hedging and distressed investing among other things at CSFB. Prior to working at CSFB, Garber was a distressed telecom analyst at Lehman Brothers which he left several years ago (BW, 8/8/2001). Pen Pendleton, spokesman for CSFB, did not provide more information by press time.
