HSBC Hires Three For ABS, More To Come

HSBC in London has made three more hires for its asset-backed team--one on the conduit side and two for the term business. Victoria Lindsell has started on Nigel Batley's European asset-backed conduit team as an associate director, joining from independent conduit administrator Liberty Hampshire in London where she was one of a two-person origination and structuring team.

Meanwhile, Robin Michaels and James Cunniffe have joined the European asset-backed securitization and asset finance team headed by Scott Dickens as associate directors. Michaels focuses on origination and structuring for financial institution transactions and was previously at Morgan Stanley in London. Cunniffe, an associate director on the structured product syndicate desk at Société Générale in London, joins Robert Drutman, director, on HSBC's ABS syndicate desk.

Dickens and Batley are both planning more hires. Dickens said he is looking for at least two more for his team and Batley will be taking on one more in London and one in Paris on the conduit side. HSBC is beefing up its team in the hopes of capitalizing on its corporate banking presence to become a significant player in the European asset-backed market. Dickens has already made six hires this year (BW, 1/17, 2/7, 2/14, 3/14).

At Liberty Hampshire, Lindsell reported to Jeremy Quinlan, managing director. Quinlan said he is looking to hire a replacement for Lindsell. Similarly, at SocGen, Terry Shanahan, managing director and global head of securities syndicate, said he is looking to replace Cunniffe.
