Spanish Banks Ordered To Clean Up Or Merge
Luis de Guindos, Spain’s economy minister, said domestic banks will need to come up with EUR50 billion ($65.5 billion) from profits and capital in 2012 to clear their balance sheets of bad real estate loans, or agree to merge with another bank by May and earn a one-year reprieve.
