Congress Extends Mortgage-Relief Act

Congress has voted to extend the Mortgage Debt Relief Act for one year until Jan. 1, 2014, thus shielding borrowers who unload their homes in a short sale from a huge tax bill on the amount of their loan’s principal that the lender forgives.
