Mexican economic slow down confirmed

Industrial growth slowed, agriculture shrank in 2005

Mexico's economy has slowed down its growth pace. During 2005, Mexico registered a GDP growth of 3.0%. According to National Statistic Institute (INEGI), last year's economic growth was lower than in 2004, when it reached 4.2%. In addition, Mexico's economic expansion was far from the official target of 3.8%.

The economic slow down was due to the industrial sector's weakness, which registered an expansion rate of only 1.6%, and the 1.5% decrease registered in the agricultural sector. On the other hand, the service sector remained the most dynamic, especially in communications and transportation, as well as financial services.
