Reuters poll: Hungary unlikely to adopt euro before 2012

Poland also expected to delay; Czech Republic and Slovakia expected on schedule

Hungary is unlikely to adopt the euro before 2012, according to poll taken by Reuters among 30 emerging markets strategists between February 7th and February 9th. The date compares to the best-case scenario heralded by the government for adoption of 2010 and the most pessimistic forecast of 2014 issued by Standard & Poor's.

The poor budgetary stance of the country is seen as the main obstacle for the adoption of the common currency. In the regional perspective Poland is also seen to delay adoption at least until 2012, while the Czech Republic and Slovakia are likely to enter EMU in line with their respective targets in 2010 and 2009.
