Qatar aims to become world's largest natural gas exporter by 2012

Oil production will hit one million barrels per day within four years

QatarÕs Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Industry, Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, said the country would see its oil production reach 1 million barrels per day within the next three to four years, following an investment of $5 billion. Al Attiyah also said that QatarÕs annual production of liquefied natural gas would reach around 77 million metric tons by 2012. Qatar is set to become the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas. Al Attiyah attributed growth in the country's hydrocarbons sector to several joint ventures and production-sharing agreements concluded in the past few years. The Qatari administration has also focused on development of its gas resources and is erecting some of the world's largest gas transport trains at Ras Laffan. Al Attiyah made these observations while speaking at the opening of the 4 th Major Energy Projects Opportunities in Qatar Conference.
