West African Pipeline Company receives go ahead

The West African Gas Pipeline will supply natural gas from Nigeria to customers in Benin, Ghana and Togo

Governments of the four cooperating countries in the trans-boarder West African Gas Pipeline Project (WAGPP), Nigeria, Benin, Ghana and Togo, have granted construction licences to the West African Pipeline Company (WAPCo), to build a transmission pipeline. The pipeline is estimated t cost USD 590mn.

The West African Gas Pipeline covers a distance of 678kms on-shore and offshore and will supply natural gas from Nigeria to customers in Benin, Ghana and Togo. The Gas Pipeline is expected to have maximum capacity of 470mn metric standard cubic feet per day  (mmscfd). 

The pipeline construction is to begin by Jun 1, 2005, and will be completed before end of next year. Gas supply to the West African sub-region is to start by Dec 2006.
