IMF urges Turkey to undertake structural reforms before new stand-by deal

Fund adds that any delay in deal is normal

Tom Dawson external relations director of the IMF, said that the Fund waited for Turkey to take steps regarding structural reforms before the approval of the new stand-by programme.

Dawson also said that the delay in taking those steps did not create concerns. This is not a long delay, and such delays should be considered as normal, especially at a period when Turkey showed an impressive performance, he furthered. The government should pass the draft on tax administration, and submit the drafts on social security and banking to parliament before the IMF board meeting where the new stand-by agreement with Turkey will be approved.
