Russia to make early IMF payments

Government to repay $3.3 billion ahead of schedule

The government made a decision on ahead of schedule repayment of funding raised from the IMF worth SDR2.19bn (special drawing rights), equivalent to $3.3bn.

The instruction signed by PM Fradkov says the repayment will be implemented via the stabilization fund's extra money, or, in other words, funds above the RUR500bn level, defined by the federal law on budget 2005. The fund contained RUR522.3 bn ($18.82 bn) at 2005-start. The government's press service also reported the proposal was submitted to EconMin and CBR approval.

FinMin is to inform IMF on the decision.
