Egypt proposes measures for formation of free trade zone amongst MENA countries. Egyptian news

agency MENA reported that Egypt has proposed new measures for implementing the Agadir

declaration, which provides for the formation of a free trade zone between Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and

Tunisia. MENA reported that the Egyptian foreign minister has sent his proposal to the four Arab

Mediterranean countries in this regard. The four countries had signed the declaration in the Moroccan

city of Agadir (south of Casablanca) in 2001, expressing their desire to gradually set up a free trade

zone amongst themselves. The proposed free trade zone would be open to other Arab countries to join.

The Egyptian foreign minister’s message calls for finalising the free trade zone agreement.
