According to A.T. Kearney research on investment attractiveness of various countries, Russia slid to 11th place in the 2004 ranking from 8th in the previous year. It was left behind by China, US, India, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Hong Kong, Italy and Japan. A.T. Kearney says this is explained partially by the increased interest to Asian economies. At the same time, Russia is less popular among investors because of the Yukos affair, slowdown in conducting structural reforms and the large-scale terrorist acts. However, Russia remains the most attractive country to invest in Europe for companies planning to make their first investments. Investors prefer to invest in Russia's oil and retail sectors.
