Bear Stearns is beefing up its research coverage of the collateralized debt obligation market in an effort to meet growing liquidity in the secondary market. Starting this week, Bear Stearns plans to put out a weekly research piece on the CDO market in which it will make relative value calls and recommendations. Bear Stearns has previously put out a bi-weekly piece focusing on general trends and the deal pipeline, without making specific relative value calls for investors to pursue in the secondary market. The firm is also bringing in new personnel: last month, it added Ranajoy Sarkar to its CDO research team, in a new role under research head Gyan Sinha. Sarkar declined to comment and Sinha was traveling. The increased emphasis on research comes shortly after the firm launched a credit-adjusted pricing tool for evaluating CDOs trading in the secondary market (BW, 6/23).
