Aladdin Capital Management, is diversifying into CDOs of asset-backed securities and commercial mortgage-backed securities.

ABS CDOs were a hot product last year and George Marshman, co-founder, said he still sees plenty of investment opportunities. "We're not doing this as part of a market-timing plan. We plan to be in this for the long haul. Sure we wish we had gotten into this market sooner, but we needed to find the right people to help us with this venture.

Aladdin recently hired Anatoly Burman to head up its ABS and CMBS purchasing activity. He joined from AIG Global Investment where he spent the past six years as a senior portfolio manager with responsibility for a $40 billion ABS portfolio. Aladdin also hired Martin Nance as a senior managing director for business development. Nance, who was running his own credit risk advisory and structuring business, will focus on new business opportunities within the structured finance market.
